Property Taxes?
A business aircraft can increase productivity, expand opportunity, and help drive revenue—but it also creates an often-overlooked Property-Tax Responsibility.
WHAT DETERMINES YOUR AIRCRAFT’S PROPERTY-TAX ASSESSMENT?
Use Classification
Whether an aircraft is classified as commercial, business, or personal affects its property-tax treatment. The right classification matters.
How Our Path Led to Aviation
After years of challenging inaccurate valuations of real property and traditional business personal property, I began examining the exemptions, allocations, and other forms of property tax relief owners may be entitled to—but often do not realize are available.
That research revealed a significant issue affecting business aircraft owners. Some were paying substantially more than necessary because their aircraft had not received the proper allocation or tax treatment. Even more concerning, many were unaware that aircraft used to generate business income are subject to property tax.
By the time they learned of this obligation, some had accumulated thousands of dollars in penalties and interest. Others faced tax liens on their aircraft for taxes they did not know had been assessed.
What began as research ultimately revealed a clear need for specialized guidance and representation. In response, Novel expanded its services to help business aircraft owners throughout Texas understand their obligations, identify tax-saving opportunities, correct inaccurate assessments, and address property tax issues before they become costly.
Our goal is simple: to give aircraft owners the knowledge, personal attention, and skilled representation they need to navigate this often-overlooked area of property taxation.
Valuation & Appeals
An aircraft’s value should reflect its age, condition, equipment, maintenance history, and market data. Owners have the right to protest the appraised value and present supporting evidence.
Filing Requirements and Deadlines
Missing a rendition, allocation application, protest, or other required filing can result in penalties, additional costs, and lost tax benefits.
Taxable Location
Where an aircraft is based, hangared, and regularly used can determine where it is taxable. Incorrect records may lead to assessments from multiple jurisdictions—and possible double taxation.
Accurate Annual Reporting
Aircraft details must be reported every year. Omitted, incomplete, or inaccurate information may result in an excessive assessment that does not reflect the aircraft’s actual use.
Don’t Wait for a Tax Notice—or a Tax Lien
Get clarity on your aircraft’s property tax obligations and learn whether exemptions, allocations, or other tax-saving opportunities may apply.
